so this book is a great way to learn about tibetan buddhism. the first half sums up the vajrayana tradition. the second half is about death and what happens after you die. very well written and inspiring. it gets only four stars because the writer seems to ramble at points and get lost telling stories about his past. they are good stories but seem to get kind of off track sometimes; like if you and i were talking and i was explaining how to properly sew a patch onto a hat and kept stopping to tell you stories about people i knew in the past who also sewed hats. i was really feeling that the author sounded deeply peaceful and full of wisdom. at one point he says he is not enlightened in so many words and i was taken aback as most buddhist authors will not just blatantly say this. later i read that he had a law suit filed on him for using his position to get his female followers into bed. this may be why he knows so much about the path but is not enlightened lol! anyway the bottom line is that it's a great book but it's hard to listen to someone preach about being a pure and good person to get rid of bad karma and reach enlightenment or recognize ones' true nature at death who you know for a fact is a messed up person who has caused much suffering. so yeah it's good but kind of hypocritical.
